What We Learned From Round Two of the Playoffs

Tyler Stearns | The second round of the playoffs did not disappoint. We saw great matchups in both conferences. The Celtics and the Cavs were the least exciting as the Celtics handled business pretty easily. The Thunder and the Mavericks were a six-game series that saw Dallas pull away. Luka, Kyrie, and the rest of the team have been playing amazing. They have a real shot to go to the Finals. The next best matchup was the Pacers and Knicks series. It started very equally as both teams were fighting back and forth. The Knicks took a 3-2 lead, but the Pacers dominantly erased that winning the final two matches to go to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The best matchup of the playoffs was the Nuggets and Timberwolves series. Last night, the Timberwolves won game seven in Denver to book their ticket to the next round. The series was filled with some amazing individual play and flying emotions. Anthony Edwards solidified himself as a top-ten basketball player in this league. He had his worst game last night in the win-or-go-home matchup, but he still played extremely hard and had some crucial baskets down the stretch. Even if he wasn't scoring, he did not shy away from taking shots to try and help his team win. He has a winner mentality. As for the Nuggets, it doesn't mean their dynasty is done. Jokic is still in his prime, coming off his third MVP season. Murray showcased his ability to be an amazing number two and step into the main role if needed. They need to make some signings this summer, but they should be poised to make another deep playoff run next season barring major injuries.

The next round will be interesting. Aside from a betting point of view, there is no clear favorite for either round. The Celtics should be expected to win, but considering how well the Pacers have played this playoffs, they have a solid shot at winning. The Timberwolves are hot but are coming off of a grueling seven-game series with the Nuggets. The Mavericks are also on fire and have had some time to rest. The Take predicts that the Timberwolves will win in seven games and the Celtics will win in six games, however, both matchups could end up very differently. Tune in for the next few weeks to see some exciting basketball.
