TheTake's *Updated* Heisman Prediction

Updated: Sep 4, 2024

Tyler Stearns | College football season is nearly underway and it only makes sense to predict who is going to win the biggest award the sport has to offer. Let's take a look at who we predict will win the award:

Carson Beck, Via The New York Times
  1. Quinn Ewers Quinn Ewers is by far the best quarterback in the nation and he is very underrated. He has faced injuries in his two seasons at Texas, but when on the field he has been exceptional. He can throw short, deep, over the middle, out wide, you name it. And he is athletic, too, showcasing some of that against Washington in the CFP. Texas has some tough tests this season, specifically against Michigan and Georgia, but if the Longhorns can win one or both of those, and Ewers goes injury-free, it will be his award to lose.

  2. Dillon Gabriel Gabriel has all the weapons to do it, but his short passing accuracy and his relatively weak arm strength will set him back. However, he has speed on the edges in Evan Stewart and Tez Johnson and a good slot option in Traeshon Holden. But more important than his limitations, his strengths and even his receivers is how he can play in big games, specifically on October 12th in Autzen. The Ducks host the Buckeyes in a matchup that may decide not only the B1G but the Heisman trophy race. If Gabriel can come out victorious, he may be able to set himself up for success.

  3. Jalen Milroe Jalen Milroe is an interesting prospect, not only for the NFL but for the Heisman trophy. He is a freak athlete who is likely the fastest player on his team. He is effectively a linebacker at QB. Passing started as an issue last year for him, but he improved quite significantly as the season went on, having his best overall performance versus Georgia in the SEC Championship. If DeBoer can make him an elite passer and have him lead the Crimson Tide offense to the playoff, he has a good chance to win the award.

  4. Carson Beck Carson Beck isn't first? The guy is a pocket passer and not much more than that. He has a good arm and is very accurate, but he isn't very dynamic, and not nearly as versatile as the other guys on this list. As well, he is propped up by his team which has a superstar at every position. But he can still win if the Bulldogs go 13-0 and he throws for at least 4,000 yards and 30+ touchdowns.

  5. Tetairoa McMillan McMillan is one of the best receivers in the country, if not the best. Aside from having some of the best numbers in the country at his position, the guy has every skill and trait that a star receiver needs in today's CFB world. Speed, size, strength, catch radius, hands, you name it, he's got it. And his numbers will get even better this upcoming season as he is going into a weaker conference than the PAC-12 he had become accustomed to. Defenses are weaker in the Big 12 than they were in the PAC last year. He can become the first receiver since Devonta Smith to win the award.
