USC Head Coach Lincoln Riley named QB Miller Moss as the starter for the season's first game against LSU. The decision seemed easy, especially after Moss's stellar bowl game performance versus Louisville. His six touchdowns and over 350 yards passing won him the MVP award for the game. Quarterback Jayden Maiava had a chance to win, but he isn't fully accustomed to Riley's scheme yet.
So what does this mean for the Trojans going into the season? Well, the team now has a QB who has been around the program for over three seasons. He is a leader who has earned the locker room's respect because he decided not to transfer after losing the starting job to Jaxson Dart and Caleb Williams in his three prior seasons.
Moss isn't the flash that Williams offered, or even Maiava for that matter. That isn't to say that he lacks athleticism, though. But in the spring game, Maiava showcased ability similar to that of other prototypical Lincoln Riley play callers.
USC is in good hands. Moss's belief in the program and his love for the school prevailed and now he has his time to shine. If he can prove himself versus LSU and lead the Trojans to the College Football Playoff, legendary status may be in the cards for the former SoCal product.
